Rate-sensitive stocks including banks, auto and real estate will be in focus on February 8 ahead of the outcome of the MPC meeting.


Hero MotoCorp: The two-wheeler major has recorded a 3.6 percent year-on-year increase in standalone profit at Rs 711 crore for the quarter ended December FY23, led by other income but impacted by weak operating performance. Revenue for the quarter at Rs 8,031 crore grew by 1.9 percent over the year-ago period, with 4 percent decline in sales volumes. At the operating level, EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) fell by 3.7 percent YoY to Rs 924 crore with the margin declining 70 bps for the quarter. The company announced an interim dividend of Rs 65 per share.


Bharti Airtel: The telecom operator has reported a 26 percent sequential decline in consolidated profit at Rs 1,588 crore for the three-month period ended December FY23, impacted by licence fee provision. Revenue from operations for the quarter grew by 3.7 percent QoQ to Rs 35,804 crore, with average revenue per user climbing by Rs 3 to Rs 193 for the quarter. On the operating front, EBITDA increased by nearly 5 percent QoQ to Rs 18,453 crore with a margin expansion of 101 bps for the same period.


Adani Green Energy: The renewable energy arm of the Adani Group has registered a 110 percent year-on-year increase in consolidated profit at Rs 103 crore for the December FY23 quarter despite weak operating performance and exceptional loss, supported by other income and strong topline. Revenue for the quarter at Rs 1,973 crore increased by 41 percent YoY, while EBITDA fell 18.2 percent YoY to Rs 853 crore with the margin declining 3,127 bps to 43.23 percent for the same period.


Sobha: The south-based real estate firm has reported a 48 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated profit at Rs 31.8 crore for the quarter ended December FY23, impacted by weak operating performance. Revenue surged 40 percent YoY to Rs 868.2 crore for the quarter, with a highest-ever quarterly sales volume of 1.48 million square feet, up 12 percent YoY and best average price realisation of Rs 9,653 per square feet, up 22 percent YoY. However, EBITDA fell 41 percent YoY to Rs 88.8 crore for the quarter with a margin of 1,393 bps YoY to 10.22 percent in the same period.


PC Jeweller: Consortium of four banks - IDBI Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of India and Karur Vysya Bank - has issued their loan recall notices to the company. The legal proceedings between State Bank of lndia (lead bank) and the company are continuing, and the next date of hearing will be February 28, 2023. The company's showrooms (barring three - Preet Vihar, Pitampura and Kingsway Camp - in Delhi) are operational.


Aurobindo Pharma: Step-down subsidiary Aurolife Pharma has received approval from US Food and Drug Administration to manufacture and market the Diclofenac sodium topical solution. Diclofenac sodium topical solution is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knees. The product is expected to be launched in Q1FY24, and has an estimated market size of around $487 million for 12 months ending December 2022, according to IQVIA.


Thermax: The energy and environment solutions provider has registered 59 percent year-on-year growth in profit at Rs 126.2 crore for the quarter ended December FY23, driven by good performance in all three segments (energy, environment and chemical) and last year's margins were affected by higher commodity and freight costs, which have now stabilised. Revenue climbed 27 percent YoY to Rs 2,049 crore for the quarter, while EBITDA at Rs 161 crore for the quarter grew by 42.4 percent with a margin expansion of 86 bps compared to the year-ago period. As on December 2022, Thermax Group had an order balance of Rs 9,859 crore, up 33 percent YoY, but order booking for the quarter was 10 percent lower at Rs 2,204 crore.

Britannia Industries: The company has reported a 156 percent year-on-year growth in consolidated profit at Rs 932.4 crore for December FY23 quarter led by strong operating performance and exceptional income of Rs 359 crore. Revenue from operations at Rs 4,197 crore grew by 17.4 percent over a year-ago period. EBITDA jumped 51.5 percent to Rs 817.6 crore for the quarter YoY.


Lakshmi Machine Works: The textile machinery manufacturer has reported a massive 76 percent year-on-year growth in profit at Rs 113 crore for quarter ended December FY23, backed by healthy operating performance and topline. Revenue from operations at Rs 1,222 crore increased by 34 percent compared to year-ago period.


Syngene International: Promoter Biocon has offloaded 4 crore shares of the company via open market transactions on February 1. As a result, its shareholding in Syngene reduced by 9.96 percent to 54.6 percent, from 64.56 percent earlier. Government of Singapore bought 1.57 crore shares of Syngene at Rs 560 per share.


Craftsman Automation: The auto ancillary company has completed acquisition of 76 percent stake in DR Axion India. In December 2022, it had signed a definitive agreement for acquiring 8.57 crore shares of DR Axion India.


Coal India: The country's largest coal mining company has announced production of 71.9 million tonnes of coal for January 2023, growing 11.5 percent over a year-ago month, while offtake rose by 6.1 percent to 64.5 million tonnes in the same period. These are provisional numbers.


Eicher Motors: Royal Enfield has sold 74,746 motorcycles in January 2023, rising 27 percent over 58,838 units sold in same month last year. But exports dropped by 23 percent to 7,044 motorcycles in the same period. The company has registered a 45 percent YoY growth by selling 6.91 lakh motorcycles in April 2022-January 2023 period.


Ashok Leyland: The commercial vehicle maker has sold 17,200 units in the month of January 2023, growing 23 percent over a year-ago period with healthy growth across segments. Medium & heavy commercial vehicle sales increased by 28 percent to 11,050 units in the same period, and light commercial vehicle segment registered 17 percent YoY growth at 6,150 units for January.


Alembic Pharmaceuticals: The pharma company has registered a 29 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated profit at Rs 122 crore for quarter ended December FY23, impacted by weak operating performance and lower other income. However, revenue from operations at Rs 1,509 crore increased by 19 percent YoY in the same period with growth across verticals as US business grew by 10 percent to Rs 432 crore and India segment reported a 12 percent growth at Rs 545 crore.

Auto stocks to be in focus: Auto companies including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki India, TVS Motor Company, Escorts, and Eicher Motors will be in focus ahead of monthly sales volume numbers for January 2023.


Coal India: The country's largest coal mining company recorded profit at Rs 7,719 crore for the quarter ended December FY23, rising 69 percent YoY on the back of higher add-on over the notified price in e-auction sale of 14.65 million tonnes (MTs) of coal during the quarter. Consolidated revenue grew by 24 percent YoY to Rs 35,169 crore for the quarter with strong realisation. The realisation per tonne of coal was Rs 5,046 under the auction segment, in Q3FY23 against Rs 1,947 per tonne for the comparable quarter in FY22. The jump was Rs 3,099 per tonne or 159 percent.


Great Eastern Shipping: The company reported a 205 percent year-on-year growth in consolidated profit at Rs 627.2 crore for the quarter ended December FY23 led by healthy topline and operating performance. Revenue from operations at Rs 1,421 crore increased by 51.4 percent compared to the year-ago period.


Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Health Care: The FMCG company recorded a 2.2 percent year-on-year decline in profit at Rs 207.5 crore for the quarter ended December FY23 hit by weak operating margin and muted topline growth. Revenue grew by 4 percent to Rs 1,137.4 crore compared to the year-ago period. At the operating level, EBITDA declined 2 percent YoY to Rs 290.5 crore and the margin dropped 158 bps YoY to 25.54 percent for the quarter. The company declared an interim dividend of Rs 80 per share.


RailTel Corporation of India: The company recorded a 52 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated profit at Rs 31.95 crore for the quarter ended December FY23 on a high base. The year-ago period included higher other income, which fell from Rs 56.46 crore in Q3FY22 to Rs 7.85 crore in Q3FY23. Revenue from operations grew by 9 percent YoY to Rs 454.32 crore for the quarter.


Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company: The company recorded 31 percent year-on-year growth in profit at Rs 684 crore for December FY23 quarter. Net income jumped 22 percent YoY to Rs 1,832 crore, with disbursements rising 68 percent to Rs 17,559 crore for the quarter. Total AUM crossed the milestone of Rs 1 lakh crore at Rs 1.03 lakh crore, up 31 percent YoY. Despite high inflation and high interest rates, strong festive season sales and workforce returning to metro cities have helped drive growth.


Sterlite Technologies: The company has signed an agreement to sell its telecom product software business via a business transfer agreement by way of slump sale as a going concern to Skyvera through its Indian subsidiary. The company will receive $15 million from the sale of the telecom product software business. Skyvera LLC is an affiliate of TelcoDR, which is a US-headquartered global acquirer of telecommunication software businesses.
